Data-Driven Approaches in Health & Medicine

17 October 2025
Bern, Switzerland

The third Bits to Breakthroughs event focused on data-driven approaches in health and medicine, with a particular focus on sepsis.

The study-a-thon brought together complementary expertise around observational health data, causal and observational study design, OMOP data modelling and AI model development.

The day was built around specific research questions, practical discussion and open collaboration between clinicians, data scientists and other stakeholders.

Data-Driven Approaches in Sepsis

The second Bits to Breakthroughs event focused on data-driven approaches in sepsis.

The symposium brought together professionals and experts working across sepsis, data science and health data semantics. The focus was on communication and collaboration across these areas, and on the challenges involved in moving from clinical data collection to useful research outcomes.

The event continued the Bits to Breakthroughs approach of bringing complementary expertise together and creating space to share experience and avoid duplicated effort.

From Reality to Breakthrough

The first Bits to Breakthroughs symposium introduced the study-a-thon format and focused on sepsis and infectiology.

The programme explored four stages in the path from clinical experience to research outcomes, featuring interactive workshop sessions, keynote talks, and networking.

Stage 01

From Reality to Bits

Turning clinical reality into data that can be used for research.

Stage 02

From Bits to Data Science

Working with data and methods to identify useful patterns and answer research questions.

Stage 03

From Data Science to Breakthrough

Using data science to develop new insights and approaches.

Stage 04

From Breakthrough to Reality
