What surrounds us, and what we use.

Kitchen tools, household objects, materials that age well, and a few things worth growing yourself.

Kitchen

Five tools, and why the rest can go.

A wooden spoon, a good knife, a cast iron pan, a citrus juicer, and a set of measuring cups that have outlasted three house moves. Everything else in the drawer gets used less than once a month.

Keeping things longer

You don't need a garden to grow something.

A windowsill, a balcony rail, or one raised bed is enough to start. We keep a running list of what's easy to grow in a first season, and what to leave until the second.

A short list of materials we keep choosing

Cedar & Oak

Dense, food-safe woods that take an oil finish well and don't warp easily.

Stoneware

Fired higher than earthenware, so it holds heat and resists chipping.

Washed Linen

Softens with every wash instead of wearing out. Undyed where we can.

Cast Iron

Repairable, re-seasonable, and generally outlives whoever bought it.

Objects worth keeping, sent occasionally.

New arrivals, restocks, and the odd guide on how to look after what you already have.
