Home
What surrounds us, and what we use.
Kitchen tools, household objects, materials that age well, and a few things worth growing yourself.
Five tools, and why the rest can go.
A wooden spoon, a good knife, a cast iron pan, a citrus juicer, and a set of measuring cups that have outlasted three house moves.
Everything else in the drawer gets used less than once a month.
Kitchen & household
Objects for daily use.
Guides
Keeping things longer.
Seasoning a Cast Iron Pan, Properly
The five-minute routine that stops it ever going back to the shop-bought state.
Caring for Wooden Boards
Oil once a month, never the dishwasher. That's most of it.
Starting a Windowsill Herb Garden
Basil, thyme, and mint. Three pots, one sunny sill, no experience needed.
Garden
You don't need a garden to grow something.
A windowsill, a balcony rail, or one raised bed is enough to start. We keep a running list of what's easy to grow in a first season, and what to leave until the second.
Materials
A short list of materials we keep choosing.
Cedar & Oak
Dense, food-safe woods that take an oil finish well and don't warp easily.
Stoneware
Fired higher than earthenware, so it holds heat and resists chipping.
Washed Linen
Softens with every wash instead of wearing out. Undyed where we can.
Cast Iron
Repairable, re-seasonable, and generally outlives whoever bought it.
